ABOUT

Copito had been left in our outside kennel, together with Pituso. As he is chipped, the owner was found, but he has handed them both over to us.

COPITO aka THE COWARD OF THE COUNTY aka MR ALL MOUTH AND NO TROUSERS

We have been fostering Copito for two weeks now, and he is a very special dog.

He’s polite, extremely adaptable, affectionate, funny, happy, fairly independent, easy-going and an absolute pleasure to have around.

Copito had been very happy at his previous 6 month foster, and we were concerned that it would take time for him to settle with us, but in less than a week he was totally into our routine, eating properly (he didn’t really eat for 2 or 3 days which I googled and found was normal), happy as a clam, and the most wonderful companion.  He does think he’s smaller than he is, and thoroughly enjoys a lap and a cuddle if allowed.  The name Copito means ‘small flake of snow’.  That he is not.  He knows his name and responds to it very well.

We were concerned that he would respond to all the barking podencos that live on the farm opposite us, but he very very rarely barks indoors.  If he does, he gives us the side eyed apologetic look and stops.

He doesn’t bother you for food (although he will very gratefully accept any treat that might be going) and he loves his dinner.  You can leave food on the counter and he won’t steal it.

He’s very independent.  In the mornings after his walk he gets two small milk bones (which he sits for when asked) and goes into a shaded fenced-in area along with his favourite yellow blanket, and stays there watching us while we work around the place.   Unfortunately,  our land isn’t completely fenced in, so we can’t just let him off the lead.  He would really enjoy the freedom a fenced in garden would give him.  He gets a short walk in the early afternoon, and then the final one around 7:30 pm, and he’s good to go until about 9:00 am.  The boy has a bladder of steel.  He has no problem being left alone when we go out, but is SO pleased to see us when we come home!  He also thoroughly enjoys a car ride, and doesn’t get car sick.

When walking Copito you have to get used to him.  We don’t think he was socialised with other dogs when he was young, so he has a bit of anxiety when he sees another dog and will pull on the lead, bark and appear aggressive.  You need to be ready for the sudden pulling when he spots another leashed dog.  He is a very strong boy.  If the other dog walker will allow their dog close to him, they generally sniff each other fore and aft and go on their way.  Once he has had a chance to get to know other dogs and understand that they won’t hurt him, he’s absolutely fine with them. Several times we have come across dogs that are off the lead, and each time he has behaved incredibly well and reacted very calmly  The other day he was surrounded by 10 dogs of assorted shapes and sizes being walked by two old farmers.  He just stood there while they gave him a thorough examination.   He met them twice and behaved beautifully both times.  His previous long-term fosterer used to let him off the lead on walks, and said that really stopped his frustration when meeting other dogs on leads.  As short term fosterers we don’t feel that we can let Copito off the lead, but if we could offer him a permanent home, we would definitely do so.

Very sadly, we are not in a position to offer this very special dog the permanent home he desperately needs.

Are you able to offer Copito the loving and caring home that he truly deserves.
