Rehoming an APROP cat is a very rewarding experience and gives our cats the second chance of a loving home that they deserve. Here are 10 reasons to adopt a cat from APROP.

  1. WE’LL HELP YOU FIND YOUR PERFECT MATCH

We aim to match you and your existing pets with a suitable companion. We recognise that everyone’s situation is different and make adopting a cat as stress-free as possible.

  1. WE KNOW THAT EVERY CAT IS UNIQUE

All our cats receive a behaviour and temperament assessment. APROP cats interact with their volunteers every day, and these people really get to know their personalities. Particularly with adult cats, you can find a companion with the type of temperament you’re looking for. You could find a playful, active cat or a calmer feline who prefers cuddling and a quieter environment. Our volunteers have knowledge and insight into each animal and can help you make the right choice.

  1. WE HAVE CATS OF ALL SHAPES AND SIZES

We take in lost, abandoned and unwanted cats of all types, so we never know who is coming through our gates.

  1. OUR CATS RECEIVE A VETERINARY ASSESSMENT

Our vet checks include worming, flea treatment, vaccinations and sterilisation (apart from very young kittens who may need vaccinating and sterilising at the appropriate age).

  1. WE REHOME FAR AND WIDE

We find loving homes for our cats in the Marina Alta area and much further afield – even overseas. Ideally we ask that you are able to travel to our site in Pego to meet them (or to the foster home where appropriate) and we will then arrange a home visit if necessary.

It is most important for us to ensure each cat is matched with the right owner wherever that home may be.

  1. YOU WILL BE HELPING TO SUPPORT vulnerable animals

APROP champions and supports vulnerable cats and dogs. Adopting a cat not only helps one of these many animals, looking for a home, but also opens a space for APROP to take in another cat.

  1. OUR ADULT CATS ARE HEALTH CHECKED AND VET TREATED WHICH MEANS YOU DON’T HAVE THE EXPENSE OF THIS YOURSELF.

Our adult cats are vet checked, blood tested for FIV and Feline Leukaemia, vaccinated and sterilised. We only ask for a donation of at least €50. This represents a significant saving on the vet fees you will pay if you adopt a pet from say, a private household and you also have the confidence that your pet has been checked for the major feline diseases.

  1. CATS CAN LIVE INDOORS AND ARE EXCELLENT SENIOR COMPANIONS

While many healthy cats prefer to be able to go outdoors, some cats will be content to stay indoors. If you live in an apartment, condo or other small space, a cat can be an excellent companion because cats don’t require lots of room or daily walks like a dog. Cats are generally low maintenance and if you provide them with toys (like cat trees and window rests for enrichment), they make wonderful roommates. Cats, particularly older, calmer cats, can provide loving companionship to older adults. They are easy to care for, and the APROP volunteers can help you choose a cat with the appropriate personality.

  1. WE ARE AVAILABLE TO ADVISE YOU AS YOUR PET SETTLES IN TO YOUR HOME

You are not alone when you adopt a pet from APROP. Our volunteers are only an email or phone call away, offering you and your pet support when you need it.

  1. FLUFFY ADDITIONS MAKE HAPPY HOMES

By welcoming these four-legged friends into your life you are guaranteed to have a forever friend that brings lots of love.
