Donated to APROP recently? … this is what you have helped us achieve!

Please share me:

You’ve donated your hard-earned cash to us, maybe you attended on of our events ‘Picnic in the Dark’ or ‘Tea on the Terrace’ … maybe you sponsor one of our animals, you are a Teamer, perhaps you had your dog or cat drawn in our recent “Portraits of a Shelter Animal’ campaign? Or maybe you choose to donate directly to us…. whichever it is, your money has helped improve many aspects of life at the shelter for our residents.

Because of your generosity, we have been able to make some long awaited improvements over the past few months here at APROP.

One of the most significant is that we have chosen to invest in better quality food for our dogs.  We are what we eat, right? This was such an important thing we wanted to do.  Yes, as a shelter we always have to think about ‘keeping costs down’ … but when it comes to food quality, getting better nutrients into our dogs helps improve their health.  A plus side is that the dogs love how it tastes and we have seen dogs who have been underweight for quite some time, finally putting on the kilos they needed.

Safety next … keeping our dogs safe when out walking (and our cats safe as the dogs trot past them!).  Your donations have bought our dogs each their very own, personal safety harnesses and new leads.  Our dog walkers are very happy to … no more searching though a box of harnesses to find one that might fit, only to find out it doesn’t! Each dog has a hook with its name above with its own harness tailor-made (well nearly) to fit.  Walkies has never been so much fun!

Our cats have also benefited from your kind heartedness … recently a new cattery roof was constructed, to keep our feline friends dry and protected from the weather. Work continues with laying new tiles along the corridors, thanks to a private donation.  The front door of the cattery has been re-hinged outwards so that the entrance area can be raised and levelled to stop the inner hallway from flooding when it rains.  We want to take this opportunity to personally thank Mick, a kind, generous and talented supporter of ours who is doing this work for us.

Your money has also enabled us to care for over 50 puppies and kittens, taken into the shelter over the past few months.   They need food, worming treatments and in some instances vaccinations and medical attention. That is a lot of hungry little mouths to feed and cute bellies to tickle.

There are so many people involved, giving their money, time and love willingly to care for these animals.  We feel so fortunate to have supporters like you.  Your willingness to help others enables us to to help these precious animals who we love so much. Thanks for being there for us!

I have been volunteering at APROP since April 2018. You will normally find me there on Tuesday mornings, helping to care for, clean and feed the dogs. In 2019 I adopted Barney, a Podenco from APROP. In fact I have taken a distinct liking to the Podencos and some call me the Pod-Mother! I am also part of the adoptions team the fundraising team and I help by fostering dogs too. Helping animals brings me much joy and happiness into my life.
